by Scarlett Lewis, Chief Movement Officer, Choose Love Movement
During a recent visit to Choose Love™ certified schools in Hillsboro, TX, I had the privilege of witnessing something truly remarkable. I dropped into one of the third-grade classrooms, and as I walked in, the educator was guiding the students through a discussion about the core values of the Choose Love Formula™. The teacher asked the kids what their favorite character value was and why, and what followed left me speechless.
The students, full of enthusiasm and articulate in their responses, each chose a different character value from the formula, yet each one connected their choice to how it could help make friends and build stronger relationships. It was a beautiful display of how the principles of courage, gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion resonate with even the youngest minds.
One student confidently declared that their favorite value was courage, explaining that it helped them make new friends. Another student chose forgiveness, sharing how it strengthens relationships. A third student picked gratitude, noting that being thankful helps you make more friends. Then a student who chose compassion explained that it helps keep friendships strong. Each response was more inspiring than the last, and it was evident that these students not only understood the values, but were living them out in their daily lives.
I was completely wowed by this experience. The impact of Choose Love on these students was undeniable, and it’s clear that the educators and schools in Hillsboro are doing extraordinary work in fostering these values. It’s a testament to the power of intentional character education and its ability to shape young hearts and minds for the better.
